APS was commissioned by Wild Horizons to design their new hotel in the heart of Victoria Falls. The completed Wild Horizons Waterfalls Lodge is conceived as a contemporary sanctuary that captures the spirit, movement, and atmosphere of the nearby falls.
Our architectural vision was to create a refined retreat that feels both immersive and grounded, a place where guests experience the drama of one of the world’s great natural wonders while enjoying the calm precision of thoughtfully crafted design.
The building composition draws inspiration from the cascading geometry of water. Layered planes, textured finishes, and fluid spatial sequences echo the rhythm of the falls, while a restrained material palette of natural stone, warm timber tones, and soft neutral surfaces ensures visual harmony with the surrounding environment. The architecture balances presence and subtlety, contemporary in expression yet respectful of its setting.
Guest circulation is intuitive and seamless. Arrival unfolds through a carefully framed entry sequence, transitioning from the energy of the town into a sheltered, tranquil interior courtyard. Public spaces are designed to encourage both social connection and quiet reflection, with generous shaded verandas and continuous breeze that dissolve boundaries between indoors and out. Natural light animates the interiors throughout the day, reinforcing the lodge’s connection to climate and landscape.
The accommodation wings are arranged to maximise privacy while maintaining proximity to communal amenities. Rooms are designed as restful sanctuaries, clean-lined, texturally rich, and acoustically composed, offering comfort without excess. Waterfall-inspired detailing subtly informs interior finishes, creating a cohesive narrative throughout the property.
Sustainability principles guided the design process, from passive cooling strategies and shaded façades to landscape integration that preserves the local character of the site. The result is a sophisticated yet accessible hospitality environment that offers immediate access to adventure in Victoria Falls town while providing a serene architectural refuge.
