Overview

Roy Nicol Densem (1927-1989) joined forces with Philip Smith and started Architectural and Planning Studio (incorporating Roy Densem Architects) in 1980. Roy's association with APS continued for 9 years until his passing in 1989.

Roy was a progressive, respected and well known Architect of his time, and had a reputation for designing efficient, minimalist and maintenance free buildings, with a particular eye for technical detail.

In particular he will be remembered for the various  developments that were constructed during the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, such as:

  • Monomatapa Hotel
  • ZESA Headquarters
  • Old Mutual Head Offices
  • Nedbank House
  • CABS Centre
  • South African Ambassadors Residence
  • Central Film Laboratories (now ZiFM Studios).
